Hon. Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, to meet with Windsor-Essex Advocates and Leaders
Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk and the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, will met with several local community organizations and advocates to discuss disability inclusion policy, skilled trades, training for workers and reforms to the Temporary Foreign Worker program.
“Our Ministry has been tasked with modernizing Employment Insurance (EI), designing programs like the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and making the largest investment in the training and upskilling of workers in Canadian history,” said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Kusmierczyk. “In my role as Parliamentary Secretary to Minister Qualtrough, it has been my absolute honour to serve as the Parliamentary Secretary to work by her side through this challenging time, ensuring all Canadians have the support they need to get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The afternoon will include a special conversation with University of Windsor Law professor Dr. Laverne Jacobs and law students from the Law, Disability and Social Change project. Dr. Jacobs and her team recently completed a full annotation of the Accessible Canada Act that was presented by Minister Qualtrough in 2019. Students will have an opportunity to speak directly with the Minister responsible for crafting the first national Canadian legislation on accessibility.
MP Kusmierczyk and the Minister will also met with workforce development agencies, local workers, labour and union leaders to discuss the Government of Canada’s historic commitment to train and upskill workers in the economic recovery phase of this pandemic.
