Government of Canada announces a National Urban Parks Program that puts Ojibway on the fast track
August 5, 2021
Exciting news Windsor-Essex! Today Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced the creation of a National Urban Parks Program empowering Parks Canada to work with local communities like ours to create a network of national urban parks from the Pacific to the Atlantic - at the same time highlighting Ojibway as 1 of 7 parks in Canada at the front of the line!
There is much work ahead of us to create Ojibway National Urban Park and community consultation will be absolutely critical - especially since the protection of Ojibway has always been community driven by residents and the dozens of environmental, labour and community organizations that have worked tirelessly towards this goal.
And here I think about Citizens Environment Alliance of Southwestern Ontario, Local 444 Unifor, Essex County Nature, Friends of Save Ojibway, Essex Region Conservation, Windsor Law Centre for Cities, Detroit River Canadian Cleanup and so many more.
Today was a big step. More exciting news to come!
