The Honourable Karina Gould, the Minister of International Development visits Windsor-Essex!
August 9, 2021
I was pleased to welcome The Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development in Windsor today.
This morning we joined City of Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, city councillors and Parks Canada to sign a statement of collaboration to work towards the establishment of Ojibway National Urban Park.
We then popped by our friends at Bike Windsor Essex for a tour of their Bike Kitchen. The Bike Kitchen empowers individuals in the community by providing them with the knowledge and tools necessary to access affordable transportation via recycled and refurbished bicycles. A big shoutout to Lori Newton and the staff for the warm welcome - I was delighted to finally meet Lyra, a student who is working at the shop through the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Thank you for your continuous advocacy to make our region safer and more bike-friendly.
Minister Gould and I had the opportunity to meet with Jennifer Jones and members of our local Rotary clubs. The work done by Rotary Club not only impacts our local community of Windsor-Essex but also those of communities around the world, serving the most vulnerable. Just as their motto says, “service above self." Thank you Harbour House Waterfront Eatery for the incredible hospitality and food!
Our excellent day was capped off with a wonderful Youth Council meeting at Frank Brewing Co. in Tecumseh.
