$4.2M Voluntary Isolation Funding for Migrant Workers
August 22, 2022
Today, I was proud to announce a federal investment of $4.2 million for a voluntary isolation and recovery centre for agricultural migrant workers in Windsor-Essex that:
Protects migrant workers and helps stop COVID19 outbreaks
Protects local healthcare and takes pressure off our hospitals and nurses
Protects our homegrown supply of food for Canadians
I was joined by Mayors Gary McNamara and Hilda MacDonald and EMS Chief Bruce Krauter among other local partners.
I am so grateful for this team and their hard work. This is good news for the health and safety of migrant workers and of our community.
Over 10,000 migrant workers leave their homes and families in Mexico, Jamaica and places near and far to come to Windsor-Essex. They work hard in very difficult conditions to help grow our food, and they invest their hard earned money back into our communities by supporting local businesses. They are an important part of our community, and we are grateful for the invaluable contribution they make. Protecting their health and safety is and must be our priority.
Thank you to Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos for your leadership and partnership supporting the health of our community and our migrant workers.
